All of Tamilnadu is reeling under surprise ever since the superstar announced his next project only a few months after his magnum opus Sivaji. And this time around it is not one but two projects in a row. The first project, awaiting official confirmation, is a short one for his mentor K. Balachander's Kavithalaya Productions, which is to be directed by P. Vasu.
It will be a remake of the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol directed by Mohanan starring Mammooty, Sreenivas and Meena, which released all over Kerala last Christmas and is running to packed houses and was also critically well received. In Katha Parayumbol, Mammooty played the role of a superstar and appeared only in a few scenes but it was a very significant role. In the Tamil version, however, sources indicate director P. Vasu has considerably increased the length of Rajini’s role so as to please his fans but it will still only occupy a minor part in the film, significant nevertheless. He has even adapted the story to suit the Tamil audiences they say. Actor Pasupathy will play the role essayed by Sreenivas in the original. Vasu has requested Rajini to allocate a mere 10 days, which is an indication on the duration of his role. Another aspect is that Rajini will not have a leading lady opposite him, reports say. Hope Rajini's fans can get enough of their superstar on screen. After all they are the ones who bring in the moolah.
